In December, MIID hosted a workshop in Taunggyi focusing on upland farmers’ opportunities to generate income besides farming.

More than 70 participants representing a broad range of actors, including Chin, Pa-O and Taungyio small-holder farmers, government departments from Southern Shan and Chin State, NGOs/CSOs and representatives from Yezin Agricultural University.

The workshop included a field trip to MIID’s former project site in Law Maungwe Village Tract in Kalaw township to learn from initiatives such as production of bamboo handicrafts, establishing of seed banks and producer groups and joint management of community water tanks.

The workshop is part of the ‘Resilient Mountain Solutions in Myanmar’ project which is generating and promoting the use of new knowledge on resilience building solutions through action research and pilots studies.
